Deal with the Elements

Deal with the Elements (REEs) is Jürgen Bauer's latest body of work. The series is inspired by the rhetoric surrounding access to rare earth elements—materials that enable essential technologies while largely remaining invisible in everyday life.
The works translate this tension into a precise and reduced visual language. Geometric forms reminiscent of crystals, blocks, or barricades occupy the pictorial space.
Through the deliberate reduction of visual means, the series creates a visual economy that reflects both the scarcity and the strategic importance of the referenced elements.

BITES OF HUMAN EXISTENCE

This exhibition is an invitation to encounter the work, the place, and one’s own experience. Through condensed figures and lines, Paul Kitzmüller explores closeness, vulnerability, and connection—not as representations of individual bodies, but as a network of human states.
As a site-specific artistic intervention, the exhibition takes place in the artist’s former studio at Fleischmarkt. The space itself becomes part of the work: a site where past and present intertwine and artistic traces become visible once again.
The works invite viewers to take time, to look closely, and to allow their own meanings to emerge—quietly, intensely, and with openness.

Fluxus im Kasten Kommissar Hjuler & Wolfgang Kindermann

The exhibition brings together assemblages behind plexiglass by the German Neo-Fluxus artist Kommissar Hjuler, using books by the Austrian author Wolfgang Kindermann. Most of the works were produced in 2025 specifically for this event. Hjuler’s transformations of Kindermann’s books and other objects from the author’s personal belongings have already been presented publicly on several occasions.

The two artists share a long-standing friendship and mutual appreciation – they even collect each other’s works. It was only a matter of time before they would realize a joint exhibition.
A first glimpse of this collaboration took place in the summer of 2025 at Galerie Boutique Romana. Now, at BaseAT4, they present an engaging two-room exhibition: a multilayered constellation of painting, sculpture, and photography that highlights different phases of their artistic development.
At the opening, Christiane Bach and Mischa Nawrata will speak about why the creation of their work may seem simple at first glance – and yet, upon closer consideration, is anything but.

In the series “Über das Zuhause” (About Home), Kater D. reflects on the private sphere as a site of intimacy, autonomy, and privilege – yet also of contradiction. The home, both refuge and constraint, becomes a space where emotions, worries, and freedoms coexist.
Her works explore the tension between visibility and invisibility: solitude conceals the individual from the outside world while deepening the encounter with oneself.By integrating found and discarded materials, Kater D. challenges notions of value, permanence, and perception. Through these transformed substances, questions arise about worth and recognition — and about how the essence of a work shifts when its material foundation is considered disposable.
Subtle rather than didactic, the series invites reflection on consumption, appreciation, and the emotional landscapes of everyday life.

IN PRINT Collectors’ Edition In Collaboration with Viadukt

Together with Viadukt we present a curated portfolio of seven contemporary screen prints, created in close collaboration with artists associated with the Viadukt Siebdruckwerkstatt in Vienna.
The project showcases the diversity of current approaches to screen printing – both conceptual and formal – and offers collectors the opportunity to acquire a high-quality set of hand-printed works. In addition, other works by the seven artists will be shown in a short exhibition.

Jö schau! Rudolf Fitz

The exhibition "Jö schau" presents Rudolf Fitz’s pointed engagement with the everyday, the quirky, and the charming aspects of Vienna’s urban landscape—and far beyond. The title, a nod to Georg Danzer’s legendary song, serves not only as a playful reference to pop culture, but also as an invitation to look closely and curiously—perhaps even with a sense of wonder—at moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Fitz, known for his keen eye and subtle humor, presents works that oscillate between documentation and irony. The featured pieces capture everyday scenes while simultaneously revealing them as quiet miniatures of the absurd.
Yet "Jö schau" is more than just a snapshot in time—it’s an invitation to reflect: on our perception, on the mundane, and on how even the seemingly insignificant can be transformed into a story through the lens of an artist.
Fitz’s work shifts between affectionate observation and dry social critique. It’s this tension that makes "Jö schau" both an entertaining and thought-provoking artistic experience.

Mixed-media artist Shira Ehlers brings together a wide range of techniques in her work – from photo overpainting and abstract acrylic painting to fine art photography and reverse glass painting.
She draws inspiration from both the everyday and the extraordinary – whether it's a withered flower, the play of light on water, or an architectural detail that catches her eye while traveling – anything can become the starting point for a new piece.
Her work often begins with the question of what touches or moves us – and is at the same time an attempt to capture these sensations visually.
Her two great passions – art and travel – are closely intertwined. The countless impressions she gathers on her journeys flow directly into her creative process. By using a wide variety of materials, she continually finds new ways to express her ideas and concepts.
Driven by a fascination for exciting combinations, she invites viewers to immerse themselves in her experimental world.
Her works can be seen both in her studio in Vienna’s 8th district and in group and solo exhibitions.
DIE DREI Bettina Schülke, Anton Herzl, Patryck Chan

Bettina Schülke
The artist works at the intersection of art, science, and artistic research. Her practice is interdisciplinary and spans various artistic media, with a focus on textile and drawing. She has presented at conferences, workshops, and festivals, and engages in collaborative projects. Schülke has exhibited widely, both internationally and in Austria. She earned her diploma with distinction from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and holds a Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Lapland in Finland. She teaches in both Finland and Austria.
Anton Herzl
Anton Herzl, born in 1969 in Graz, studied painting with C.L. Attersee (graduating with distinction in 1999) and worked from 2003 to 2011 as a studio assistant to Franz West. Since West’s passing, Herzl has pursued his solo career, achieving notable highlights such as the solo presentation Imaging Komponisten at the HDM. In addition to his visual work, Herzl also writes poetry and art texts about other artists. In 2013, he curated the exhibition A Tribute to Franz West at Galerie Konzett, which was accompanied by a book created in collaboration with Herbert Lachmayer. Herzl lives and works in the Weinviertel region and in Vienna.
Patryck Chan
Born in 1978 in Linz, Patrick Chan emigrated to San Francisco, California with his mother at the age of ten and spent nearly twenty years in the United States. He studied photography and digital media at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. His interdisciplinary work moves between photography, painting, and collage. He has exhibited extensively in both the USA and Austria. Chan works as a freelance photographer, assistant, and artist.

Free-flowing lines, dreamy scenes, and vibrant animal figures—this is the essence of the works created by three Vienna-based artists. What unites them is a shared goal: through their paintings, they seek to uplift viewers and transport them into fantastic parallel worlds. Their artworks speak for themselves and require no prior knowledge of art history to be appreciated.
At the heart of the exhibition are animal figures, staged as protagonists in playful dreamscapes. With a bold embrace of lightness and a lively color palette, the artists invite their audience on a journey through surreal animal worlds—filled with dots, stripes, and color compositions reminiscent of sweets.
Anna Amerhauser evokes delicate childhood memories with her circus horses. Her love for interior design is reflected in her motifs, often inspired by architecture and its spaces—characterized by bright colors and playful details.
Hannah Franke brings a variety of animals to life on paper and canvas with her intuitive linework. Her strokes feel free and effortless, overlapping dynamically to animate monkeys, crocodiles, or fish in a playful manner.
Anna Pelz creates dreamy, wide-eyed figures that gaze directly at the viewer—often in the form of pigs. Her works invite identification, reminding us that humans are part of the animal world, even if that is easily forgotten in urban life. Her color palettes feature soft pastels, contrasted with bold accents.
This exhibition is an homage to imagination, colorful lightness, and the beauty of playfulness.

"Li pisce tornano" means "The fish return" in Italian. Likewise, Bryan Benner and Václav Fuksa return to the stage with new songs and fresh inspiration. They present their latest album, Li pisce tornano, the third and final chapter of their musical journey through the Neapolitan song tradition.
American baritone and classical guitarist Bryan Benner (The Erlkings) and Czech guitar virtuoso Václav Fuksa have joined forces to create an extraordinary concert experience that puts Neapolitan music at its core. Their program is much more than just a tribute to the legendary duo Fausto Cigliano and Mario Gangi, whose arrangements serve as a foundation—it is a powerful reinterpretation of this vibrant musical tradition, brought to life with dedication and artistic precision.
A special highlight of the evening is the use of the original guitars of the famous duo, crafted by Enrico Piretti from Bologna. These instruments were once played in Cigliano and Gangi’s unforgettable concerts and recordings.
"Sehnsucht nach Italien" takes the audience on a musical vacanza to Naples, showcasing a repertoire spanning 500 years of music history—from the Renaissance to the 1950s.

Barbara Mathes’ artistic work arises from her deep perception of colors and forms. Her creations exist at the intersection of time and space, as well as her inner and outer worlds. Through a conscious and precise process, sensation and material enter into a profound dialogue, which is reflected in the composition of her works.
For Barbara, material is not just a means of expression but an active co-creator. She approaches it with particular attentiveness, allowing its properties to guide her and exploring its possibilities. The texture, resistance, lightness, or weight of the material—all of these aspects influence the creation of her works.
A central element of her art is space itself. Barbara engages with the atmosphere of a place, bringing her works into a dynamic exchange with their surroundings. Often, site-specific works emerge, harmonizing with their environment and capturing the character of the space. In this way, the exhibition itself becomes an extension of her creative process—a snapshot that reaches beyond itself, inviting viewers to explore the subtle transitions between reality and eternity.
Barbara Mathes was born in Vienna and received her artistic training under Helga Laut, with a focus on graphic arts, calligraphy, and figurative drawing. Her work has received multiple awards, including the Theodor Körner Prize and the Youth Culture Prize of Burgenland. She was an Artist in Residence at Domaine Albrechtsfeld Heinzel and received a scholarship for an international residency in Argentina.
Her exhibitions include presentations at the Wiener Werkstätte, Schloss Esterházy, the Biennale der Zeichnung in Eislingen, as well as solo exhibitions at the Kunstverein Eislingen and Kunsthaus Mürz. Her works are currently on display at Mondi Gallery in Vienna.
Barbara Mathes was previously represented by Peter Abuja (Klagenfurt) and Ines Ebertz (Stuttgart). She is currently represented by Base AT4 in Vienna and Galerie Grill in Graz. She lives and works in Austria.

With alte Nonnen und neue Haie (old nuns and new sharks), Ana Vollwesen presents an AI-generated art series distinguished by its surrealist approach. The works blend absurdity with strong contrasts, challenging conventional visual and thematic boundaries. Religious iconography meets animals, unexpected color schemes create dreamlike atmospheres, and a poetic tension arises between realism and fantasy.
These juxtapositions question common notions of tradition and modernity, identity, and transformation. Through the deliberate use of unconventional symbols, the series offers a subtle yet powerful reflection on societal norms.
Ana Vollwesen is a multidisciplinary artist and curator from Vienna. Her work operates at the intersection of social critique, humor, and aesthetic provocation. She challenges established rules, examines social structures, and engages with themes such as feminism, social justice, and identity. Her art is an experiment with boundaries—always playful, often subversive, sometimes embracing.
